Baseball opens with 3-1 series win over Central Christian College

Ecclesia College Opens Season with a Win Over Central Christian College

Pitching was the story in the first few innings in this one. Central Christian starter Landon Stevens had the Ecclesia batters off balance through three innings. His team was able to scrape one unearned run across off starting pitcher Madison Bates and led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth.

It was then that Ecclesia scored six runs all with two outs and chased starter Stevens from the game.

First baseman Ethan Casey added some insurance with a two-run homerun to right center in the 5th inning.

Bates got stronger as the game went along and shut the door through six innings.

Ecclesia added four more insurance runs and Elijah Saldana pitched a clean seventh to finish off the 12-1 victory in game 1.

Ecclesia College Grabs Lead in Fifth Inning for Victory Over Central Christian College

Starter Mason Alexander struggled early in game two for Ecclesia, giving up four runs in the second inning to put the Royals in an early hole. Alexander eventually settled down as the offense chipped away at the lead with two runs in the 3rd and tied the game with two runs in the fourth.

The Royals defense was then put to the test in a tight ball game, with runners on first and second and two outs, Central Christian got a single to left field. A perfect relay throw from left fielder Stevie Morphew was cut by third baseman Drew Vinson which caught the runner trying to retrieve to third base to end the inning and preserve the tie.

The heart of the order took advantage for Ecclesia in the bottom of the 5th inning with a leadoff homerun from senior catcher JT Stalnaker, a double from Ethan Casey, and an RBI single from second baseman Cameron Dougherty.

The Royals would bat around in that inning pushing the leading to 10-4. They added an insurance run in the 6th and finished off the double header sweep 11-4.

Dougherty had a big day at the plate going 4-8 with 2 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Stalnaker added 3 hits and 2 RBI's of his own. Shortstop Zach Vincent went 4-6 on the day with 2 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Every Ecclesia starter had at least one hit in game two.

Ecclesia College Claims Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Central Christian College

Ecclesia College took the lead late in the game in a 10-4 victory over Central Christian College on Saturday. The game was tied at four with Ecclesia batting in the bottom of the fifth when Jeremy Green tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

Ecclesia earned the victory despite allowing Central Christian to score three runs in the fifth inning. Cann and Noey each had RBIs in the frame.

Ecclesia got things started in the first inning. Stevie Morphew drove in one when he doubled.

Jacob Martinez earned the win for Ecclesia. He allowed ten hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Ramos took the loss for Central Christian. He surrendered ten runs on nine hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Ecclesia had nine hits in the game. JT Stalnaker, Drew Vinson, and Green each collected multiple hits for Ecclesia College. Green, Vinson, and Stalnaker each collected two hits to lead Ecclesia. One of Stalnaker's hits included a three run homerun in the fifth inning.

Central Christian racked up ten hits. Patterson and Carrigan each managed multiple hits for Central Christian. Patterson led Central Christian with three hits in four at bats.

Central Christian College Bests Ecclesia College In Close Game

Both teams were strong on the mound on Saturday, but Central Christian College was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Ecclesia College on Saturday. Isaac Carlson started the game for Ecclesia College and recorded 12 outs.

Jones took the win for Central Christian. He surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out four.

Carlson took the loss for Ecclesia. He allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one.

Matt Garrison, Ethan Casey, Robbie Rodriguez, and Cameron Dougherty each managed one hit to lead Ecclesia. Ecclesia didn't commit a single error in the field. Zach Vincent had the most chances in the field with 11.

Freas led Central Christian with two hits in three at bats. Central Christian was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Freas had the most chances in the field with eight.

The Royals are back in action on Monday, February 5 at pre-season NAIA #5 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University for a 9 inning game at 2:00 PM.
