Men's Basketball Records First Win of the Season

Senior night for the fall semester graduates was on Friday night at The Jones Center in Springdale, AR, and the Royals sent out their seniors the right way. Ecclesia hosted Calvary University and recorded their first win of the season by a final score of 64-62.

Coach Huck would start each graduate for their final game and Sammy Johnson Jr. (Memphis, TN/Tennessee State University), Aquandre Decuir (New Iberia, LA/Morthland College), and Tyler Bullie (Bellevue, NE) all scored in their last game as Royals. The first half showed strong defense from the home team as they held the visitors of Calvary to 27. The defensive energy translated to offense as well with Ecclesia gaining a 9 point advantage, 36-27 following the first 20 minutes of play.

In the second half the tables turned a bit, as Calvary’s offense heated up and Ecclesia’s cooled down. Shots were not falling as often and the visitor’s quickly cut the lead to 4. The second half would be a close battle the rest of the way and with just minutes remaining the score was tied.

Senior Guard Ashton Worgu (New Iberia, LA/Morthland College) came up big in the final minutes recording 2 key steals and a clutch block. The Royals held a 64-60 lead with seconds left when Calvary scored their final basket to cut the lead to 64-62. With just 1.2 left on the clock Ecclesia was able to get the pass in and dribble out the clock for the win.

Sophomore Guard Vince Toftness (Owenton, KY/Asbury University) would lead Ecclesia with 18 points, but the win was no doubt a team effort on both ends. The first win of the season for the Royals also marks the first win for Coach Tanner Huck as a Head Basketball Coach. It was a great way to end the semester and send off the graduating seniors. After two more games, Saturday at Southeastern Oklahoma State, and Monday against University of Arkansas Monticello, Ecclesia will go on break and look to add more wins in the spring semester.
