Royals Drop a Pair at C of O Classic

This past weekend Ecclesia Men’s Basketball went to Point Lookout, MO to play in the College of the Ozarks Classic. Friday night the Royals would face off against Haskell Indian Nations University, and then on Saturday they’d take on the hosts of the event, College of the Ozarks.

Friday night was a high octane offense as both teams played fast and scored often. Ecclesia was outsized in the matchup and Haskell took advantage using strong post play to take a 15 point lead at the half.

Down 59-44 Ecclesia came out firing on all cylinders and outscored their opponents 55-51 in the second half, but the first half hole was to much to overcome as Haskell won 110-99. Sophomore Guard Vince Toftness (Owenton, KY/Asbury University) had himself a night, dropping 34 points, knocking down 5 three pointers, and hauling in 5 rebounds. Davion Lockridge (El Paso, TX/Ranger Junior College) added 22, and Milacio Freeland (Rogers,AR/Lyon College) put up 20.

On Saturday evening College of the Ozarks defeated the Royals 98-84. Ecclesia would play well, but C of O played very disciplined and took a commanding 49-29 after the first 20 minutes.

In the second half Ecclesia’s offense came alive but it would not be enough to get the win. Late it the second half the Royals went on a 20-3 run to cut the lead to 10. The game resulted in the 98-84 loss. Freshman Guard Deondre Phillips (Fort Smith, AR/North Side High School) led the Royals offense with 22 points, as Vince Toftness (Owenton, KY/Asbury University) added 20. Cash Krueger (Denton, TX/Lyon College) and Milacio Freeland (Rogers,AR/Lyon College) also reached double digits.

Ecclesia’s next game is on Friday January 25th at Randall University in Moore, OK at 7:30 p.m. following the women’s game. In other Men’s Basketball news, the February 1st and 22nd games against Baptist Bible College have been cancelled and result in forfeit wins for Ecclesia.
