Softball Team Eager To Start Season After Going 3-1 in Exhibition Games

The Lady Royals Softball team is looking forward to kicking off their season next weekend. Led by new Head Coach Cassie Long, the softball team for Ecclesia has a lot of talent this year. They are a very young team, and Coach Long will be working on developing the girls as players, and training them to handle the rigors of a long, tough college softball season.

The ladies have played exhibition games each of the past two weekends, and things have looked good for Ecclesia. In the first game the pitching looked good as Junior Ashtyn Rothrock tallied 9 strikeouts, but the Lady Royals lost 8-6. In game 2 the bats stayed hot and the defense came to life as Ecclesia held NorthArk to 1 run as Sophomore Emily Chadwell tallied 5 strikeouts.

Playing NorthArk again this past weekend the defense showed that they are ready for the season as great plays were made in the field and Ecclesia would notch two more exhibition wins by scores of 8-3 and 3-2. In the final 3-2 game the Lady Royals would show their toughness as the game went into extra innings before they came away with the win in the 9th.

The ladies are feeling great after winning three straight and they are continuing to work hard as they eagerly await their first games against Southwestern Christian University on February 15th and 16th. Those first games will be at home and are both double headers beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. We look forward to seeing how the Lady Royals play throughout the course of the season!
