Alexander/Garrison named NCCAA All-Americans

Graduated seniors Mason Alexander and Matt Garrison were named NCCAA All-Americans last week in a national coaches poll. Mason was named a 2nd team all american, and Garrison was named to the 3rd team.

This is Mason's second straight year being named an all american, last season he was named to the 3rd team. This year, he finished with a 10-2 record, 2.06 ERA with 85 strikeouts and just 22 walks in 83 innings of work. Mason was a dominant force almost everytime he toed the rubber and always gave the Royals a chance to win. Some of his signature wins this season came out of the gate in February defeating NCAA D2 school Eastern New Mexico, then undefeated nationally ranked NAIA program Texas Wesleyan, and the eventual #1 overall seed in the NCCAA world series Southwestern Christian. Mason also went 2-0 in the post season this year with wins over Arlington Baptist and #4 nationally ranked Hiwassee College in regionals and the world series, respectfully. Being named an all american ties a bow around one of the greatest pitching careers in program history, and gets added to 1st team all region honors, and national player of the week awards just this season alone.

Garrison, the Royals' center fielder was named to the team for the first time in his career. Garrison finished his senior campaign with a .365 avg, .440 OBP, 10 2B's, 1 3B, 1 HR, 27 RBI's, 58 runs scored, and 42 stolen bases which was good for tops in the nation for the third straight season. One of Matt's best games in his career came in the world series opener against Hiwassee in which he went 5-5 with 4 singles, 1 double, 1 RBI, 4 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Matt also sported two games this season in which he stole 4 bases, and two games with 3 stolen bases. He was 8-18 in the world series with 6 runs scored. Garrison also showed off a .992 fielding percentage in the outfield and numerous highlight reel caliber catches. This naming to the all american team also caps off one of the best careers in program history for an outfielder. In addition, Garrison was also a 1st team all region selection this year and last year.
