Recap:

After a tough loss in the home opener against rival Barclay College, Ecclesia College looked to bounce back on the road against MidAmerica Nazarene University. It was definitely not an easy matchup with MNU being an NAIA division 1, 2019-20 National Tournament Qualifier before Covid-19 cancelled the tournament.

The game started out with both teams going a combined 4-4 from the field with Zachary McGee and Nicholas Coble connecting on both of their first attempts to create a 5-4 lead for MNU. The pattern of Zach and Nick scoring for the Royals would become a normal occurence for this game, and the close score would also be a constant. The Royals would match the Pioneers blow for blow in a defensive start to the game leading to a 18-15 lead for the Pioneers mid way through the first half. However, the Pioneers would capitalize on some transition chances and lapses by EC's defense to spread the score to 40-26 with five minutes left in the half. Then an 8-0 run was initiated by Zachary McGee sinking all three free-throws after being fouled on a perimeter jumper to shrink the deficit. The Pioneers managed to answer a couple of Royals' buckets and headed in to half leading EC 50-40.

The second half started strong for MNU with a three pointer following an offensive rebound, but was quickly answered by an 17-4 run by the Royals capped by back-to-back three point baskets from Nicholas Coble to tie the game at 57. After this, the game was back and forth with MNU building small leads and EC crawling back to tie the game several times. The game would reach its most climatic point with 22.9 seconds left when Ecclesia took its first lead of the game 83-82 on two more freethrows from Zachary McGee. After a quick timeout MNU managed to knock down a contested three pointer to take a two point lead with 3.9 seconds left. Coach Huck countered with a timeout of his own, but the game winning play was unsuccesful. Ecclesia fell to MidAmerica 86-84 in a terrific matchup.
