The Royals softball team finally got their home opener on Friday and Saturday. Their first home games were supposed to be over a month ago but many different conflicts pushed it back. They hosted Southwestern Christian University for their first games at Royal Park.

Game one of the series was a great contest in which the Royals jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first inning. SCU would bring the game back to even and it would stay tight through six innings with Royals trailing 8-7 to enter the seventh. But, midway through the top of the seventh SCU would drill a three-run homer to take an 11-7 lead, and the game would end with the same score. Savanah Gayle started on the mound and was relieved by Brynna McGuire. Lexie Guerrero went 3/4 with three runs, and Adrianna Weaver added two runs and two RBIs.

The second game of the day was a good one for the Royals and another tightly contested game. Adrianna Weaver started and Brynna McGuire relieved again. SCU struck first this time with one run in the first, but the Royals came back with four runs in the second. The teams would then trade off innings with the Eagles scoring twice in the third, a Gabby Moore HR in the 4th for the Royals, and then an SCU run in the 5th to make the game 5-4 in favor of EC. Southwestern would score the next run in the seventh to tie the game and then go three-up-three-down to force extra innings. The Royals turned a double play and caught a fly-ball to put themselves back on offense. Lauren Franco hit a walk-off RBI that scored Lexie Guerrero for the Lady Royals first win of the season.

Day two started with yet another good game. Ecclesia lead 3-2 after two innings before the Eagles went on a 5-1 run to win the game 7-4. The Royals hit the ball well but had a few too many costly errors. Brynna McGuire started and was relieved by Savanah Gayle. Lauren Franco, Gabby Moore, Brynna McGuire, and Chasity Schiltz all batter .500 or better.

The last game of the series stayed true to the theme of just being good softball. Ecclesia started the scoring in the second inning with the second Gabby Moore HR of the weekend. SCU held a 3-2 lead halfway through the fifth inning before a two-run bomb from Emily Thelkeld put the Royals back on top 4-3. This was a very cool accomplishment because is not only the first home run of the season for Emily T, but it is her first lifetime home-run. Unfortunately SCU would win the seventh inning 4-1 to win the game 7-4. Adrianna Weaver pitched nearly a complete game before being relieved by Savanah Gayle.
