Day One of the Independent Tournament Ends and Royals Advance

The NCCAA D1 Baseball Independent Tournament got underway today at Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale, AR. The tournament host Ecclesia College enjoyed their bye that gave them a 12:30 first pitch time, while three other contests were played and/or started before them.

Recap:

The Royals tournament opener was against Dallas Christian College. The #5 seeded Crusaders upset the #4 Southeastern Baptist College Chargers 13-1 immediately preceding their game with the Royals. Dallas continued to hit well and found themselves winning 5-3 after three innings of play. Clayton Phillips launched a three-run bomb for Ecclesia's first runs of the tournament. Dallas struggled in the closing innings and Ecclesia capitalized. Another home run for Ecclesia by Austin Butler and the Royals took advantage of a couple miscues by the Crusaders that led to a 9-6 Ecclesia win.

Cooper Gordon and Matthew Threatt manned the mound for the Royals.

Up Next:

The Royals will play at 11:30 tomorrow morning against Champion Christian College coming off of 12-2 and 10-4 wins over Randall University and Bob Jones University respectively.

Tournament Info:

Starting tomorrow is a 9am pitch for #4 Southeastern Baptist College versus #7 Bob Jones University to work their way back to the winning bracket. SBC lost their first game against #5 Dallas Christian College, and #7 Bob Jones University blanked #2 Kansas Christian College 13-0 before losing 10-4 to #3 Champion Christian College.

The second matchup of the day starts at 10am between #5 Dallas Christian College and #2 Kansas Christian College to work their way back to the winning bracket. Dallas Christian upset SBC before losing 6-9 to the hosting EC Royals. Kansas Christian got shocked by BJU and then beat Randall University 9-3.

The third matchup of the day is the semi-final match between #1 Ecclesia College versus #3 Champion Christian College. EC beat Dallas Christian 9-6 to advance to the semi-final. Champion Christian beat #6 Randall University 12-2 and Bob Jones University 10-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

Having lost both their games today Randall University has been eliminated from the tournament.
