Great Pitching Leads Gold Past Navy 3-0 in Game 1 of Navy-Gold Royals Series

A superb effort by starting pitcher, Jacob Martinez, lifted Gold to a 3-0 win in seven innings over Navy on Saturday night at Royals Field in game 1 of the 2016 Navy-Gold Royals Series.

Martinez got the win for Gold thanks to 13 strikeouts. The Gold's pitcher tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed only two hits.

Navy's starting pitcher, Mason Alexander, was charged with the loss. In a complete game he walked four, struck out four, and allowed three runs.

Gold stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring one run on an error.

Gold built upon their lead with two runs in the sixth. The inning looked promising, as Alec Walker singled, scoring JT Stalnaker to kick things off.
