The Ecclesia college women's basketball team opened up their season over the weekend with a trip down to Keene, Texas for a Saturday and Sunday two game series against Southwest Adventist University. The Royals got off to a slow start on Saturday on the offensive side finding themselves with only 12 points at halftime. 9 of those points came on three 3's from Junior guard Haley Gresham (Crowley, TX/Southwestern Assemblies of God University). The second half was a different story, the royals dropped 32 points, but it wasn't enough as Ecclesia lost the first game 51-44. Gresham paced the royals with 15 points, freshman guard Dara Smith (West Fork, AR/West Fork High School) also reached double digits with 12 points of her own, all coming in the second half.
The second game, played on Sunday afternoon, was a different story for the royals with the offense setting the tone early and maintaining consistency throughout the game. They scored 25 of their 54 total points in the first half en route to a 54-46 victory. Ecclesia was led by Sophomore post player Cherokee McGraw (Mountain Grove, MO/Norwood High School) who had 19 points. Smith and Gresham also added 11 and 10 respectively.
Eccelsia is now 1-1 on the season and will be in action again November 4th for an exhibition at John Brown University.
