This afternoon Ecclesia College’s Men’s Basketball Team went to Centerton, AR to spend some time with local kids at Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. It was a great opportunity for the team to learn what the facility does for the children.
The Royals learned about how NWACS provides kids with medical and dental care, food, shelter, safety, recreation, counseling and more. The shelter has a capacity for 48 kids and typically has between 18-22, ranging in age from 6-17.
The players were able to spend time with the children playing basketball and volleyball, as well as just sitting and talking with the kids. It was a nice opportunity for the team to learn, help, give back, and bond before kicking off the spring portion of their season.
“It was a great time to do something as a team that is bigger than us. It's very easy to get stuck in a rut. Going to the shelter helped remind us that there is so much more than basketball. We are called to serve. Making a kid smile because you wiffed on a [volleyball] spike demonstrates how easy it is to make someone's day better.” said Coach Tanner Huck.
The team enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the community by volunteering, and they are now looking forward to getting back on the court. The Royals are traveling to Calvary University tomorrow as the Women’s team tips off at 2p.m. and the Men’s team tips off at 4p.m.
