Ecclesia College 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Preseason Preview

The Royals men’s basketball begins the 2019-20 season under the direction of second year Head Coach Tanner Huck. Coming off a disappointing ’18-19’ season, Coach Huck is looking for a quick rebound fueled by a roster with mostly new faces. “Our roster is clearly younger than most, but we have many good pieces that we look forward to putting together” Coach Huck said.

Men’s basketball starts off with a tough weekend that includes two regional opponents: NAIA preseason ranked #23 Mid-America Christian and Southwestern Christian. The following Tuesday Barclay College makes the drive to Springdale for the home opener. The Royals will have two home games (Barclay College and Ozark Christian College) in the fall compared to fourteen road games. “Our fall semester historically has always been one filled with tough teams and road trips. I personally like it. It’s a great time to build the team and get ready for a competitive spring semester and post-season” Coach Huck said. As the fall semester continues, the schedule continues to boast high levels of competition including NAIA’s #4 LSU-Shreveport, John Brown University, and Midway College among others. Also, on the schedule are NCAA DI’s Southern A&M, Alcorn St., Grambling St., and NCAA D2’s UT-Tyler, and Harding University.

The second half of the season will start much of the same way as the first half with a road trip to regional foe #18 Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The traveling tide will then change as Ecclesia will host four out of the next five contests against fellow NCCAA opponents Baptist Bible College, Calvary University, Dallas Christian College, and Nebraska Christian. “As much as I enjoy team bonding in the vans, it will be nice to stay at home for a couple weekends” Coach Huck added. The spring half of the season will allow the Royals six home and ten road contests. Senior night for Men’s Basketball will be February 21st against Champion Christian College.

“We are very excited for the direction this program is taking. We have a very energetic and engaged group of men that want to get better every day on and off the floor. There is no doubt that we are laying a strong foundation that will allow for the team to be better in February than in October” Coach Huck said. “At-least, that is the goal.”
