Tuesday evening on the campus of John Brown University, Ecclesia College Men's and Women's basketball teams went to battle.
The Girls tipped first against the very good shooting team from John Brown University. The shooting proved to be unstoppable as the Golden Eagles capitalized on seven of their first nine attempts from deep before coming back down to earth. The Golden Eagles offense would still hold to be too much for the Royals to handle, dishing 29 assists on 39 field goals. Meanwhile the Royals offense struggled, shooting only 15 percent from the field and used the free-throw line to score half of their total points. The Lady Royals will travel to Cottey College on December 7th for their last contest before breaking for Christmas.
The Men followed up the women's game only for much of the same to be seen. Once again EC got off to a slow start, digging a quick 36-10 hole before the offense would level off and the Royals would enter halftime down 27 points. The Royals offense did its best to follow Deondre Phillips in the second half as he poured in 20 points in the final 20 minutes. It would not be enough as the lead would grow to as much as 42 in the final minute ending the game 100-58. JBU men shot 21-40 from behind the arc and limited the Royals to just 33 percent from the field. The Royals were led by Deondre Phillips 28 Points and Vlad Chira 6 rebounds. Next the Royals will travel to Dallas Christian for a tournament matchup against Southwestern College out of Winfield, Kansas on December 16.
