Heading into Thursday’s matchup with No. 2 Mid-America Christian University, the Royals knew they had a tall task ahead of them.
Within the opening 6 minutes of the game, the Royals kept it close, heading into a timeout only down 2 with 13:55 remaining. However, out of the timeout, the Evangels went on a 10-0 run, with 8 of those being from elite guard Omar Boone. Ecclesia battled back momentarily, but the Evangels offense was too hot to handle as they finished the half on a 20-0 run. As Royal fans, we were hoping to see MACU slow down in some form, but despite our wishes, the Evangels scored 47 second half points while continuing to play lockdown defense.
As for the Royals, they played an elite NAIA program who played extremely well and came away with the victory. Truthfully, the Royals started off slow and simply could not overcome the early deficit. However, Coach Huck and his program will never concede defeat, as shown by his coaching and the team’s effort while the game was clearly out-of-reach. This game was a blowout by all standards, but as we preach to our student-athletes, “be where your feet are”. That game is behind them and they are looking forward to their next action on the court.
Looking ahead, the Royals look to rebound (pun intended) against the Warriors of Calvary University this Saturday, November 14th at 3pm.
