MEN'S BASKETBALL EDGES OUT FIRST WIN

Ecclesia College men's basketball traveled to Belton, MO for a familiar matchup with Calvary University. This is the fifth meeting between Coach Tanner Huck and Coach Sanders with 3 of the first 4 meetings ending in a two-point spread or overtime. Matchup number five followed in the same foot steps of tightly contested games.

Recap:

The game began fast paced and efficient as both teams got great looks and capitalized despite constant pressure being applied by the defenses. It was a quick moving chess match as the game feature seven ties and twelve lead changes throughout its entirety. The Warriors got up by as much as seven points in first half with nine minutes to play. However, a solid back half of the first period propelled EC to a four point lead heading into haltime.

The second half started strong for the Royals and they managed to push the lead to a total 18 points with 10 minutes left in the game big thanks to a strong showing from Terrell Green. Ecclesia also saw great contributions from their bench in play from Freshmen Asher Booth and Shamar Jones. The Royals lead could have been far more substantial, but an abysmal 19-35 freethrow shooting left a thread of hope for Calvary to cling to; they did just that. Calvary started to chip away at the Ecclesia lead before making a strong push in the final five minutes, outscoring Ecclesia 16-1 to take a 1 point lead with 18 seconds left. However, with .8 seconds left, a shooting Oswaldo Terrazas was fouled and sent to the line. He capitalized on one out of two freethrows and the game went to overtime 77-77.

In overtime the Ecclesia offense found it rhythm through Nicholas Coble who scored the first seven points of the OT for the Royals. Ecclesia also found renewed confidence at the free throw line as they shot 9 for 11 during the added minutes of the game. Calvary converted on some big play opportunities but it was not enough, and Ecclesia pulled out the win 94-88.
