The Ecclesia College women’s basketball team took to the court Tuesday evening for a midweek matchup with the Saints of Central Christian College of the Bible. Fourth year head coach Tonya Ingram looked to lead her team into the record books with win number five in the first six games to give them the best start to an EC women’s basketball season ever.
The game started out tight with three-point baskets being traded in the early possessions. Continuing through the first couple minutes the game would stay close with CCCB taking an 8-6 lead. This would be their last and largest lead of the game as the Royals depth and offense took over and surged ahead on a 15-0 run to make it 21-8. This was spurred by some great shooting from freshman guards Alysia Pickett and Madison Bailey. The Saints would respond and cut the lead back to 6 for a short time before the Royals wore them down again. Ecclesia with great offense now coming from the bench seen in Gabby Adams who is second on the team in scoring, the kind of 6th man most coaches dream of, and Callie Whitfield. The Royals would push ahead to a 36-24 halftime spread behind an assortment of EC scorers being led by Grace Crawford with 10.
The Lady Royals would start out the second half strong, building their lead to as many as 18 points. However, an uncharacteristic cold spell offensively allowed the Saints to chip away at the lead from the FT line. The Saints would cut the lead to 11 before Gabby Adams would silence the opposing bench with back-to-back threes to clinch the game. The Royals were propelled to a 74-61 victory due to some great perimeter defense and perimeter shooting.
This win solidifies their place in the record books, and pushes them to 4-0 in NCCAA play.
Gabby Adams: 18 points, 4 threes, 2 steals
Alysia Pickett: 15 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds
Jada Wilson: 9 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals
