December 5th in the Jones Center was the location of the contest between both Men's and Women's teams of Ecclesia College and Calvary University. The Men's game also doubled as their Senior night due to the unpredictable landscape of college athletic scheduling
The women's basketball looked more like a track meet in the opening minutes. Within the first few minutes of the game the Royals found themselves leading 17-14 and ended the first quarter ahead 19-18. The game would remain close was a tail of two styles. The Warriors of Calvary University battled inside for their points and the Royals found success from deep. The half ended on a perfect example of this as Calvary scored inside to tie the game 36-36 before an Ecclesia three-pointer found the bottom of the net to enter halftime 39-36 in favors of the Royals.
The second half started and the Warriors adjustments worked well as they quickly took a small lead. Despite great shooting from Gabby Adams the Royals entered the final period trailing by four. With the constant inside attack of the Warriors, the Royals found themselves in foul trouble. This foul trouble would really hurt the Royals as the Warriors capitalized on 34-39 freethrows. The Royals were unable to hang on and lost with a final score of 86-70.
Gabby Adams: 21 points, 6/12 3FG, 4 steals
Alysia Pickett: 22 points, 7 assists
The men's team honored their two seniors in Vlad Chira and Deondre Phillips before tonights game. They also decided they liked the pace of the women's game and it looked much the same. Both teams came out running, but were playing solid defense. With less than 10 minutes to play in the first half the game was on track for both teams to end up only reaching the 50s. However, towards the end of the first half both teams found some offensive rhythm and would enter halftime with an EC lead of 40-33.
The second half was very favorable for Ecclesia as Nicholas Coble and Zachary McGee found thier shooting touch and poured in three after three. They would combine for 10-22 from three point land on the evening. The Royals defense was also alive this evening forcing 17 turnovers and giving up only 6 assists while holding their opponent 19% from three point territory. The Royals would build a 22 point lead before having to fend off a late game surge from a relentless Calvary team. The Royals would walk off with a 93-79 victory.
Nicholas Coble: 24 points, 6/12 3FG, 3 rebounds
Zachary McGee: 22 points, 9 rebounds, 4/10 3FG
Deondre Phillips: 15 points, 7 assists
