Baseball: Michael Sage

Michael Sage, a Wichita, Kansas native, begins his third year as an assistant baseball coach with the Royals. His primary duties consist of working defensively with the infielders, recruitment of infielders, offensive assistant and third base coach.

Coach Sage transitioned as the Royals’ starting third baseman and team captain to assistant baseball coach after graduating from the program in 2015. Sage was one of four senior players to be the first to graduate from the program since the Royals’ inaugural season in 2013.

Sage transferred to Ecclesia College from Butler County Community College in Kansas after his sophomore season and became a two year starter for the Royals. He finished his career ranked top 5 in several team records including #2 with a .328 batting average. Other categories he ranked top 5 in are runs scored, runs batted in, singles, stolen bases, sacrifices, hit by pitch and assists.

During his senior year he led the team hitting .365 and was named Honorable Mention All-Central Region at third base and selected to the All-Arkansas Collegiate Baseball Team, which is made up from the state’s colleges/universities that have baseball programs ranging from NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO players.

Sage has also served as the assistant baseball coach of the Windy Hill Whales of the summer Beach Collegiate Baseball League in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
