Baseball: Matt McCue

Matt McCue, a Radford, Virginia native, begins his second year as the head baseball coach with the Royals. In his first season McCue led EC to a 31-27 record, an NCCAA Central Region Tournament appearance, and an NCCAA World Series appearance.

Prior to being the head baseball coach, McCue, served as an assistant coach for the Royals working defensively with the outfielders, recruitment of outfielders, offensive assistant and first base coach.

Previous to being named as an assistant baseball coach at Ecclesia College, McCue served as an assistant baseball coach during the 2016 and 2017 seasons at New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia. Coach McCue assisted the head coach with formal duties, worked defensively with the outfielders and served as the hitting coach, third base coach and recruiting coordinator. During his two year tenure at New River Community College, McCue helped guide the Muskies to their first conference tournament appearance in program history, a school record for single season wins and raised the team’s batting average from .218 to .270.

During the summer of 2017, McCue served as an assistant baseball coach for the Cobras of the Show Me Collegiate Baseball League based out of Ozark, Missouri. His primary duties included hitting coach and third base coach.

After a successful high school playing career, McCue attended New River Community College where he was a two year starting outfielder and relief pitcher. From NRCC, he signed a National Letter of Intent with NCAA DII Saint Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina where he hit .309 his junior season and .366 his senior year that garnered him All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors as an outfielder.

After his collegiate career, McCue played two years professionally. He signed a professional contract for the 2013 season with the Raton Osos of the Pecos League of Professional Baseball. In 2014, he signed with the Shovel City Crawlers of the Independent Baseball League.

McCue graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in History and is currently working towards a Masters in Ministry. He lives in Decatur, Arkansas with his wife Kelsey, and their daughter Anne Elyse, born July 2019.
