Baseball Looks to Bounce Back

The Royals traveled to Bartlesville, Oklahoma this weekend for a 3-game series with NAIA Top-25 Oklahoma Wesleyan University. After a rocky start in Game 1, the offense caught a spark in the 5th inning, with Sophomore Jett Warner hitting the team's first home run of the year, taking a 93 mph fastball to deep left field. The Royals carried this offensive momentum into Saturday's doubleheader with Freshman Ethan Delgado hitting the first pitch of the game out to deep center field. The royals went on to score 4 more times, with Jett Warner (2), Julian Aguilera (1), and CJ Price (1) all driving in runs.

In Game 3, the Royals jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 in the first inning with RBIs from Ray Jaramillo (1), Adrian Vivo (2), and Tucker Bradley (1). The OKWU pitching staff settled in, not allowing any more runs the rest of the game.
After answering back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, OKWU scored 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the game, and then took the lead in the 4th inning from a 2-out balk.

Derek Harbison and Josh Nicholson both pitched well in relief for the Royals, with Harbison going 3.1 innings, giving up just 2 hits and 1 run. Nicholson went 1.1 innings, giving up 1 hit and 0 runs.

Though the expectations weren't fully met due to the final scores, it was an encouraging opening weekend. They play a 4-game series at NAIA Philander Smith University in Little Rock, Arkansas, looking to be over .500 after two weekends. It's a very exciting time for Ecclesia Baseball.
