On Monday, Royals Softball traveled to Oklahoma City to take on NAIA Southwestern Christian College in a doubleheader. In Game 1, the Royals got on the board in the top of the 1st inning with an RBI single from
Western Mussett before SCU tied the game in the bottom half on an error. The score remained until the 3rd inning when
Desirae Reed went deep to center field to take a 2-1 lead. SCU answered in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI triple from Shakyrah Gladness that scored 2 runs followed by an RBI groundout by Madison Jones that plated another. The offense was unable to answer back and, in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Eagles broke it open with 5 runs on 4 hits with a 2-RBI single from Jessie Moralez, a sac fly from Madilyn Hagood, an RBI triple from Lexi Cahwee, and another RBI single from Gladness. The game ended due to a run-rule in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Emily Suttles took the loss for the Royals, going 5.2 innings and giving up 8 earned runs on 11 hits while striking out 2. Jessica Czikra picked up the win for the Eagles, going 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5.
in Game 2, SCU maintained the momentum from the first game, jumping ahead with a 5 run first inning. After the Royals tried to get some offense going in the 3rd inning with an RBI single from
Desirae Reed to score
Alexis Williams and get on the board, SCU scored 3 more in the bottom half of the inning after Lexi Cahwee stole home followed by an RBI single from Maliyah Patton and a sac fly from Londyn McNair. After
Desirae Reed hit another RBI single to finish off her 3-3 game in the top of the 5th, SCU scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 10-2 lead and once again reach the run-rule limit.
Ariana Ortiz took the loss, going 4.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 1 while Shakyrah Gladness got the win for SCU, going 5 innings and giving up 1 earned run on 6 hits with 3 K's.
Desirae Reed and
Alexis Williams had good offensive days for the Royals, going 4-7 and 3-6, respectively. Reed also drove in 3 of the 4 runs on the day for Ecclesia.
The Royals look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Branson, MO for a round robin tournament on Sunday and Monday.
