This Saturday, the Lady Royals played a home doubleheader against Haskell Indian Nations University. Before the first pitch, the team recognized and honored the 7 seniors that have put so much into the program during their time here.
Alexis Williams,
Aubrey Smith, Sam Johnson,
Western Mussett,
Riley McAdams,
Ariana Ortiz and
Taylor Hannah have all represented Ecclesia College Softball tremendously during their time as students and we are so proud to have them.
After the celebrations, there were games to be played. The offense ensured Haskell couldn't play spoiler, putting up 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looking back en route to a 16-2 5th inning run-rule. Alexis Willliams led the way, going 3 for 5 with an RBI and scoring 3 runs.
Emily Suttles got the win, pitching 5 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3.
Game 2 was more of a nail-biter. After Haskell got out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Royals answered in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI double from Western Musset to bring the score to 2-1. Haskell's Delerie Martinez responded with an RBI double of her own in the top of the 3rd to extend the lead to 3-1. Both pitchers settled in at that point, each throwing 3 straight scoreless innings. The Royals finally got back on the board when
Desirae Reed hit a 2 RBI sac fly to right field to tie the game at 3-3. After
Ariana Ortiz put up another 0 in the top of the 7th, the Royals came to bat in the bottom half with a chance to walk it off on Senior Day. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Senior
Western Mussett smashed a 2-1 pitch up the middle for an RBI single to walk it off and give the Royals their second win of the day.
Ariana Ortiz pitched a great game and got the win, going 7 innings and allowing 10 hits, 2 earned runs with 3 strikeouts.
With only 8 games left in the regular season, the Royals are looking to take this momentum into Tuesday's midweek games at Mission University and further into Regionals. It's a great time to be heating up.
