Softball Home Opener

Royals Split with Lyon College

On Saturday, the Royals Softball team played a doubleheader against Lyon College from Batesville, Arkansas. In Game 1, the Royals' efforts to come back from down four runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 12-11. The girls were able to close the gap by scoring off a solo home run, a steal of home, three RBI singles and another home run.
Ecclesia opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning due to home runs from Ariana Ortiz and Desirae Reed, who went 4-5 in Game 1 with a home run and 3 singles.
Lyon took the lead in the top of the third inning after Brianna Morquecho, Sophie Varela, Anna Voth, Mary Duffield and Georgia Holzer all collected hits along with a defensive error from Ecclesia.
Western Mussett went dep to left to bring the score to 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning, then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Riley McAdams.
After Lyon took the lead on an error in the fifth to go up 8-7, the Royals answered back with an RBI single from Desirae Reed to tie the game.
Lyon's offense continued to put it on with an RBI single from Mary Duffield in the sixth inning to go up 9-8.
After going down 12-8, the Royals continued to fight in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homerun from Riley McAdams, but ultimately fell just short.

In Game 2, the offense picked up where the left off with Riley McAdams going deep two more times. Featuring 17 total hits, including multiple hits from Western Mussett, Ralyn Johnson, Lauren Taylor and Arian Ortiz, the ladies put up 17 runs to outlast Lyon College by a score of 17-10.

The Lady Royals look to continue on with this momentum in their next matchup this weekend against Central Christian College in a 4 game home series.
