Softball Sweeps Haskell University

The Royals softball team came back from some tough losses last week and swept Haskell University this past weekend in Lawrence, Kansas. The Ecclesia Lady Royals bats were on fire this past weekend and they put up 52 runs in four games. 

In game one, Madison Knox drove in four runs on two hits to lead Royals past Haskell University 17-6 on Friday. In the second inning, Knox doubled, scoring three runs. 

Royals got on the board in the first inning after Western Mussett drew a walk, scoring one run. 

Ecclesia added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Lexie Guerrero hit a sacrifice fly, and Haskell committed an error, each scoring one run. 

Emily Suttles earned the win for Royals. The starting pitcher surrendered 11 hits and six runs (five earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking none. 

The Royals accumulated 16 hits in the game. Ariana Ortiz lead Ecclesia with three hits in five at bats from the lead off position. Rylee Williams led Royals with five runs batted in. They went 2-for-4 on the day. Riley McAdams, Guerrero, Mussett, and Kaylee McDaniel each collected multiple hits for the Royals. Mussett paced Royals with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. The Royals run-ruled Haskell game one, and began game two with the same energy. 

Ecclesia softball was firing on all cylinders against Haskell University for game two. The Royals easily dispatched Haskell University on Friday 13-5. 

Royals jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Madison Knox singled, scoring one run, Western Mussett singled, scoring two runs, Mussett scored after tagging up, and Lexie Guerrero singled, scoring one run. 

A ground out by Rylee Williams, a single by Gracie McGarrah, and an error helped Ecclesia extend their early lead in the second. 

The Royals added one run in the third. Haskell University committed an error, making the score 10-2. 

Ariana Ortiz earned the win for the Royals. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and five runs over five innings, striking out two and walking five. 

Ecclesia piled up 14 hits in the game. Guerrero, Ortiz, Knox, Mussett, and Williams each collected two hits for the Royals. Mussett and McGarrah each drove in two runs for the Royals. Mussett led the Royals with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game. Royals also turned one double play in the game. 

Game three was another victory for the Ecclesia Royals. Aubrey Smith collected three hits in three at bats, as the Royals defeated Haskell 9-1 on Saturday. Smith tripled in the second inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning. 

Ecclesia was the first to get on the board in the first when Kaylee McDaniel doubled, scoring one run. 

The Royals added one run in the second. Lexie Guerrero was struck by a pitch, making the score 2-0. 

Ecclesia added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Rylee Williams singled, scoring two runs, and Smith doubled, scoring one run. 

Madison Knox earned the win for the Royals. They gave up six hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking three. 

Ariana Ortiz and Western Mussett each collected multiple hits for the Royals. Ecclesia turned one double play in the game. 

Game four was a high-scoring affair that ended with the Royals on top. There were runs aplenty on Saturday for game two. Royals topped Haskell University 13-10. Ecclesia collected 14 hits, while Haskell University had 8. 

Ariana Ortiz collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Ortiz doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning. 

The Royals got on the board in the top of the first inning after Madison Knox doubled, Haskell committed an error, and Rylee Williams singled, each scoring one run. 

Ecclesia took the lead in the top of the second inning after Knox singled, and Haskell University committed an error, each scoring one run. 

The Royals captured the lead, 9-5, in the top of the fifth when Ortiz doubled, scoring one run, Kaylee McDaniel singled, scoring two runs, and Knox singled, scoring one run. 

Taylor Hannah earned the win for the Royals. They gave up eight hits and 10 runs (six earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking eight. Knox tossed one and one-third innings of no-run ball for the Royals in relief. The righty allowed zero hits, striking out none and walking one. 

Ecclesia tallied 14 hits in the game. Ortiz and Knox each collected three hits for the Royals. Knox and McDaniel were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Royals. Western Mussett collected two hits for Ecclesia in five at bats. The Royals had a strong eye at the plate, piling up four walks for the game. Riley McAdams and Aubrey Smith led the team with two free passes each. The Royals stole three bases in the game. Ecclesia also turned two double plays in game four. 

What a great weekend of softball for our Lady Royals. Ecclesia softball will travel this week to Conway, Arkansas to play Central Baptist College on Tuesday. They will also be away this Friday and Saturday to play against Crowley's Ridge College and Harris Stowe University.
