Ecclesia College's 2024-2025 Athletic Year Finishes

The Royals entered the 2025 NCCAA Regional Tournament as Conference Champions and the Number 1 Seed. The team was upset by Dallas Christian in the first game of the tournament to force their backs to the wall in an elimination game against Grace Christian University, the team that ended the Royals' season last year. After going down 5-0 in the first inning, the team refused to let history repeat itself. They answered back with 3 runs in the 2nd inning thanks to an RBI single from CJ Price and a 2 RBI double from KJ Merriweather. Eduardo Soto came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the first inning and shut down every bit of momentum that Grace had and continued to carry the team on his back for 4 more innings. In the top of the 4th inning, the Royals tied the game thanks again to Price and Merriweather, with Price hitting another RBI single and Merriweather scoring Price on a sac fly. After Ray Jaramillo walked and Price got to first on a bunt-single, Adrian Vivo launched a double to deep center field to score both runners and give the Royals for the lead for the first time in the postseason. After Vivo advanced to 3rd on a groundout by Merriweather, Ethan Delgado scored him with an RBI fielder's choice to extend the lead to 8-5. Pablo Rodriguez came into the game from the bullpen in the bottom of the 6th and put up a quick inning with a leadoff groundout, a single and a double play turned by Delgado and Julian Aguilera to end the inning. KJ Merriweather beat out a fielder's choice at first base to score Jaramillo from 3rd and add another insurance run in the 7th. Rodriguez continued to shove in the bottom of the inning, getting two quick outs, a single then striking out the last batter with a fastball.

The following day, the Royals played another elimination game against Champion Christian. Senior Cole Doke started the game, going 5 strong innings allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs. The offense started off slow again but picked up as the game went on. After a leadoff triple from Aguilera, Jaramillo scored him with a ground ball to short to put the Royals up 1-0. Champion tied the game in the 3rd with a fielder's choice of their own. The score remained until the bottom of the fourth when Delgado hit a sac fly to center field to score Jaramillo and advance Price to 3rd base. Champion wouldn't go away yet, however, as they answered back in the top of the 5th with an RBI single to tie it back up. Finally, in the bottom of the 6th, the Royals offense came to life and called game. After catcher Tucker Bradley got hit with a pitch to lead off the inning, Merriweather singled, then he and courtesy runner Delton Lamborn advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. On a 2-2 count, Delgado hit a 2 RBI single to left field to give the Royals the lead again. A single from Gustavo Soto and a throwing error advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd again with 1 out. Adrian Vivo hit a hard ground ball to 3rd for an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 5-2. With 2 outs, Julian Aguilera hit another RBI single to left to score Gabe Reed and give the Royals a 6-2 lead going into the 7th. Derek Harbison came into the game to close out the 4 run lead and did it flawlessly, getting a pop out to 2nd, a groundout to 3rd and a fly ball to center field to end the game and win another elimination game.

After beating Champion, the team had to play again back-to-back, this time a rematch with Dallas Christian. Aidan Wagley started on the mound, going 3 innings and giving up 4 hits, 4 earned runs and striking out 4. The team took another early lead like in the Champion game, with an RBI walk for Merriweather in the 2nd and a sac fly from Aguilera in the 3rd. Dallas scored 3 in response in the bottom of the 3rd after back-to-back walks, a double and a single. The offense couldn't plate a run in the top of the 4th, and the bottom half was the nightmare inning. After a leadoff walk followed by an error, Dallas hit an RBI single to go up 4-2 with no outs and runners at 1st and 2nd. Two more batters walked to score another run with bases loaded and no outs. Cade Bell came in to pitch and got a sac fly to center field to score another run for the first out of the inning. The next batter popped up for the second out. With 2 outs and runners at 1st and 3rd, a passed ball scored the runner from 3rd to extend Dallas' lead to 7-2 before Bell struck out the last batter to get out of the inning. The offense did their best to stay alive with Jett Warner reaching on a hit-by-pitch, and a double from Gustavo Soto. With two outs, the team caught a small break when Aguilera hit a hard ground ball to shortstop and the short hop wasn't picked by the first baseman, allowing 2 runs to score and get to 7-4. Bell continued to keep the team alive out of the bullpen, putting up a 0 in the 5th inning. After a quick offensive inning in the top of the 6th, Dallas scored one more insurance run in the top of the 7th with a sac fly to center field to go up 8-4. Jett Warner led off the 7th with a hard-hit single, but 3 consecutive strikeouts behind him would end the game and, ultimately, the season.

2025 was an incredible season for Ecclesia Baseball. A program that has been through so much over the last few years, with 4 head coaches since 2021, a 13-39 season 2 years ago, and a first-year head coach this year, the team continued to fight and prove all year that they belong at the top of the rankings. The team proudly boasted 15 All-Conference Winners, 4 Gold Glove Winners, 2 All-Region Winners and the Conference Coach of the Year in Head Coach Griffin Smith. The Royals were Central Southwest Conference Champions for the first time with the best winning percentage in program history. Every single player played for his brothers and never quit on each other, even when it might have been easy. The season didn't end with a World Series trophy in Kansas City, but the impact and magnitude of what this group of men accomplished is undeniable.

The Ecclesia College Athletic Year has now come to an end. In the year that began with Soccer having a winning record for the first time, Women's Basketball qualifying for a Regional, and now Baseball winning 33 games and their conference, it's been great to be a Royal. There's still more wins to come and celebrations to be had, so stick around and keep your eye on Ecclesia Athletics. As always, Go Royals!
